Hamilton Point provides investment management services to a variety of nonprofit institutions including a hospital, cemetery, community college, church, hospice, and multiple private family foundations. We have experience in all aspects of institutional services, from helping organizations prepare and implement the Request For Proposal (RFP) process, to formulating and implementing an Investment Policy Statement governing document to facilitate in board oversight of investment funds. Our investment philosophy is based on an endowment-style asset allocation model, with individually researched and purchased equities and fixed income making up the core of each portfolio (about 70% of the total value), complemented by allocations to select outside managers for additional manager and asset class diversification. This emphasis on in-house research helps us reduce the layers of fees associated with many investment “wrap” programs where fees to the investment manager are overlaid on top of fees to various sub-advisors who are making the actual investments.
Our investment process also gives us a high degree of control over the specific investments that we make and their consistency with a particular mission of an organization. We screen companies for socially responsible characteristics, excellent management reputation, and value-added business models. As part of our analysis, we conduct an annual sustainability assessment of all of our core equity holdings in order to analyze the ways in which they manage their business in the context of the interests of the environment and broader community.
